Douglas Gould and Company is a communications firm that helps progressive not-for-profit organizations and foundations use the most effective communications tools to advance important causes. We offer a range of client services, which to date have served of over 100 public interest organizations nationally and internationally.

What We Do
Our insight and breadth of hands-on experience have created some of the most successful communications campaigns and advocacy projects around social and economic justice, youth and education, religion and society and health issues. We assist our clients in a variety of media and communications capacities including: strategic communications campaigns, web campaigns, media placements, message development, spokesperson & advocacy training and opinion research.

The Program
The Douglas Gould and Company Internship Program is intended for current college students enrolled in communications or public policy undergraduate or graduate programs who are interested in working hard on meaningful projects. Interns are expected to, conduct media research and outreach, contribute to special writing projects, provide assistance at special events, and perform other normal office duties.
The Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for college students to learn about the daily operations of a strategic communications firm. The Internship Program is a paid position and is offered three times a year. The position is located in the company's main office in New Rochelle, NY (Westchester County). Specific hours will vary; we are looking for someone who is available 15-20 hours/week.
Eligibility
- All applicants must be at least 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship.
- All applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university.
- All applicants must be authorized by the government to work in the U.S. permanently - no exceptions.
Program Dates
We accept applications year-round for our three Internship sessions each year:
- Winter Session February – May
- Summer Session June - September
- Fall Session September – December
Position Description
Our interns gain exposure to every facet of the communications business. Douglas Gould and Company will educate Interns on the fundamental skills of public relations, e.g. writing, pitching, media monitoring, media relations, electronic media, special event planning, and/or online engagement.
Interns work part-time and are paid $15.00 per hour. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation and housing.
Selection Process
To be considered for a Douglas Gould Internship, please submit the following:
- Two (2) business writing samples, a memo, letter or web piece preferred
- A current resume
- An official college transcript if you have graduated, or, an unofficial college transcript if still matriculating
- Two (2) signed letters of recommendation. These letters should be from someone who knows you and can comment on your capabilities: a former boss, a professor, advisor, supervisor or someone comparable

We will schedule an in-person interview with all candidates selected to move on in the process. We will ask the most qualified candidates to return for a second interview with Douglas Gould and Company senior executives either in person or by telephone. Please be prepared to answer questions any writing samples you submit and the experiences listed on your resume.
