Media Coordinator
DG&C seeks someone with professional communications and media experience and who is willing to come in and make immediate contributions to our projects.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with clients who take progressive positions on a variety of issues including education, civil and reproductive rights, poverty, hunger and peace issues.
- Draft press releases, media advisories, and fact sheets
- Track and anticipate media opportunities and make recommendations on behalf of project goals
- Provide on-site technical assistance for special events and convenings
- Engage the media for placement opportunities/place stories in various media outlets
- Support project efforts by brining new ideas and offering fresh perspectives
- Create media lists and databases
- Collaborate with internal staff/external partnerships on as needed basis
Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong and confident telephone presence
- Strong interpersonal skills, positive and service oriented attitude
- Familiar with different types of media outlets
- Solid Internet and research skills; ability to create large databases using MS Excel
- Familiarity with Bacon’s Media Map or Cision, Lexis-Nexis, and Factiva is desired
- Creative thinking
- Ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
- Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently
Requirements:
- BA or BS in communications or related field, or equivalent experience
- 1-2 years paid work experience in communications or related field, experience on progressive social issues or in a non-profit environment preferred
- Oral and written Spanish language abilities a plus
